Almost everyone in their twenties has 3/4 of their life ahead of them, is just starting to work, and has yet to experience much of what life has to offer. There are experts for so many topics, but many of them make me question why they are an expert. Or, more to the point, I only get a glimpse of their expertise in a 2-minute interview. To get it otherwise, I need to go to a seminar or some other forum I can't afford. This includes reading a book, since I first want to be more confident they will help me. I read a Stephen King book because I know he can freak me out and make me cringe. Very few people read Richard Bachman books, until they discovered it was Stephen King testing a pen name.
So, if I'm going to write about finances, how am I an expert? Well, by most definitions I'm not. I can't even say I'm an expert on being a twenty-something, since there are plenty of things I wish I'd done (I'm about to turn 29). However, I am a young person who works, and has dealt with many of the finance concerns people our age deal with regularly. Those I haven't experienced (admittedly student loan debt), I try to read about. Though this isn't specifically about student loan debt, but managing finances in general. For this, I think I'm fairly knowledgeable, and want to share this knowledge. What I don't know, I will certainly do my best to learn and share what I learn.
I will try to pick a new general topic every so often, maybe with daily updates on tangent topics. I think Generation-X, Y or whatever other letter I'm part of is capable of a lot more than we're given credit for by the Boomers. Not to mention we face a lot of problems it looks as though they will never deal with (Social Security not being around for one), and so we must educate ourselves and prepare for this future. Suggestions for topics are always welcome, as are specific situations. I only ask that you remember I will only point you in the right direction, and maybe state how I would handle something. Whatever action you take is your choice. Educating yourself on how to take that action your responsibility, I'm only here to support your efforts.
Until next time, enjoy the July 4th holiday.
